Austin, TX:  After a grand opening this past Saturday, the Big Pink Blanket of Love: Work by Jan Heaton and Friends at the Davis Gallery is now well underway! This special group exhibition is being held in loving memory of Kristin Heaton Peabody, who passed away in January. The gallery graciously organized the event for her mother and my friend, artist Jan Heaton and for her family. Read more about this exhibit and preview some of the artwork here. Please make it a point to stop in and see this exquisite show by Oct 12th; all of the work was created in the spirit of love and healing, something we can all use a dose of today. 10% of the exhibit proceeds will benefit The Peabody Fund-UCSD, supporting the work of Dr. Ezra Cohen to develop a personalized cancer vaccine.

About the Big Pink Blanket of Love. More than 50 participating artists each contributed a 4"x4" original artwork that was sewn together into a quilt by Davis Gallery Director, Kevin Ivester and his wife Danielle. In addition to the blanket installation, the rest of the exhibit was curated to honor love, community and the legacy of Kristin Heaton Peabody. After the show, the blanket wall installation will be donated to Dell Children’s Medical Center, Art of Giving 2020.

How We Dance is the painting I contributed to the exhibit. In basic formal terms, it explores how red interacts with blue. As the forms interweave, this simple approach takes on a colorful dance motif and then you begin to notice an attraction and blending of opposites like strands of DNA, masculine/feminine, yin/yang. Sometimes it feels soft like woven fabric or flowing water and sometimes more sharp like shards of glass or fractured stone, a lot like the many facets of love. I hope you stop in to see it in person and the other exquisite works in the show. 10% of the exhibit proceeds will benefit The Peabody Fund-UCSD, supporting the work of Dr. Ezra Cohen to develop a personalized cancer vaccine.

It means the world to me to be included in this show. I would love to help see the end of cancer in my lifetime.
